Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a popular public speech writer. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. She is the author and director-general of Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit website that explores representations of women in pop culture narratives. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding the harassment and targeted attack on women and as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while she was still at university. She was a young woman with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet to examine the how gender is represented in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. The harassment didn't discourage her. It only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit examines how women are depicted in popular culture of today.
